Benenden’s Centenary Buildings Shortlisted for RIBA South East Awards 2024

Benenden’s Centenary Hall and Sir David K.P. Li Music School – formally opened in October 2022 – have been listed among 16 outstanding building projects in the South East by the Royal Institute of British Architects.

Designed by the multi award-winning Guy Holloway Architects, who conceived it as ‘a musical instrument in its own right’, the stunning Centenary Hall offers state-of-the-art acoustics and gives audiences a truly impressive performance experience.

Retractable seating allows for a diverse range of different configurations, making the space as perfectly suited to assemblies and Benenden’s end-of-the-year Speech Day celebration as it is to the full range of performing arts, also accommodating an exciting programme of commercial events open to the wider public.

The fully-equipped music school comes complete with more than 20 light-filled practice, rehearsal, percussion and song rooms, the latter for choral and solo practice. The Recital Hall meanwhile offers a more intimate performance space.

The buildings represent the most ambitious development project in the School’s history, and sat at the centre of the many advancements planned during the run up to the School’s Centenary. They have transformed opportunities not only for Benenden’s musicians, but for the School and local communities more widely.
