Benenden’s annual favourite House Shout – an inter-House song and dance competition – was the perfect start to the term, setting the tone for the year with infectious energy and team spirit.
Those familiar to Benenden will remember House Shout as a raucous start-of-the-year activity that brings whole Houses together over a weekend to practice and perform a song of their choosing under the direction of the Upper Fifth (Year 11) pupils. Involving every student, it’s the perfect way to welcome new pupils and get them involved in their middle school Houses.
Guldeford kicked off the competition in blazing orange attire with a suitably assured rendition of Demi Lovato’s Confident. Norris then followed with an equally energetic performance of the Spice Girls’ classic Wannabe.

Echyngham followed with Ariana Grande’s Problem, impressing with their pink uniforms and dynamic dancing, before Marshall took to the stage with a vibrant version of Justin Beiber’s baby.
Hemsted closed the competition with an animated take on ABBA’s Voulez Vous that earned them the prize for production, but it was Norris’s Spice Girls number – capturing of the true spirit of ‘90s girl power – that claimed the overall competition.
As always, it was a pleasure to see the students come together to create such impressive performances in such a short space of time, and the quality of the songs was a testament to the Benenden students’ creativity, commitment and community spirit.
