Science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) form the basis of many of the most rewarding and influential careers in today’s world and are subject areas that provide interest, creativity and innovation in the school curriculum.
In an increasingly technological world, where we are bombarded with scientific and technical information, it is important that students are able to benefit from the ability to analyse data, contextualise information and apply their learning to the world we live in.
To support this approach to learning, Benenden has developed a wide range of research projects, in conjunction with renowned organisations and university research groups, allowing students to participate in scientific investigation alongside scientists who are working on solutions to real world problems.
We believe that by offering students the opportunity to work on research in this manner, they will be better equipped to overcome the challenges and problems that are an everyday occurrence in STEM innovation and have a better understanding of the plethora of roles available to them in the future.
In order to support and enhance this work and to increase participation amongst Benenden students and those of our partner schools, we organise and run regular interactive seminars, entitled “Meet the Scientists”, which give students access to ground breaking ideas and expert knowledge, covering a wide range of STEM subject areas.
We are dedicated to providing exciting, stimulating and innovative approaches to STEM learning, that allow the integration of the STEM skillset into our classrooms, motivate students to look beyond the curriculum and develop thinking and reasoning skills that will form the foundations of successful STEM careers in the future and allow all our students to be informed citizens for the scientific world.
