A cellist who has achieved international acclaim – including performing at the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – played to Benenden students and later a sell-out audience at Hemsted Park on Friday (15 November).
Sheku Kanneh-Mason performed for more than 550 music-lovers at Benenden School’s stunning venue along with award-winning Harry Baker on piano. The duo gave an unforgettable performance of Bach and Beyond during the evening performance, having played a few pieces from the programme to students of Benenden School during the afternoon who also had a chance to also ask questions about their relationship with music.
The programme showcased Kanneh-Mason’s extraordinary versatility, weaving together Bach’s iconic Cello Suites with contemporary pieces that pushed the boundaries of classical music.
“Sheku’s performance was nothing short of mesmerizing,” said an audience member. “Hearing Bach’s timeless works alongside modern compositions in such a stunning setting was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.”
The concert was held in the beautiful Centenary Hall at Benenden School, which holds professional arts events for the public through its Hemsted Park brand.
Speaking after the event, Sheku commented: “It’s been wonderful to be here performing a recital of music that we really enjoy. Harry enjoyed putting it together and it’s lovely to share it with a wonderfully warm audience here. The Hall is spectacular. It’s great to walk out into a space that looks as beautiful as it does and sounds so wonderful.”
