Benenden students spent the first week of the Spring Term working tirelessly on their House Dram entries – a drama competition in which each Middle School House performs a play written and directed by the Sixth Form.
Having worked on the scripts over their Christmas holidays, the Six One (Year 12) students returned to their Middle School Houses during the week to begin casting roles, choreographing dances and building props with the younger students.
Over the weekend, Houses then put tremendous effort into rehearsing and refining their final pieces – all based around a theme of ‘New Beginnings’. Students, staff and a panel of judges gathered in the Benenden Theatre on Sunday to watch each of the performances, which explored themes of redemption and reinvention with some hilarious send-ups of the Benenden community and culture.
With dazzling dance pieces, stunning set design and razor-sharp wit on display, each play was incredibly entertaining, and the quality that the students were able to produce in a very short space of time was truly impressive. The judges made their decisions across a range of categories, and the results of the competition were as follows:
Best Actor – Pippa, Norris
Best Script – Echyngham
Best Programme – Marshall
Best costume – Marshall
Best Dance – Echyngham
Best Tech – Hemsted
House Dram winners – Guldeford
