During the Christmas break, Benenden students travelled to Canada for skiing training and racing as part of the Canada Cup competition – a contest for selected English schools designed to give students the opportunity to ski on top quality facilities.

After a ten-day trip, four Benenden students became level one ski instructors – Six One (Year 12) students Emma and Molly and Upper Fifth (Year 11) students Abbie and Allegra.

Students also enjoyed a lovely celebration at the gala supper – Lucy in Lower Fifth (Year 9) was part of the winning dual slalom team and Benenden came third in the overall schools' cup for the girls.

The achievement owed much to the three individual times achieved by Lottie, Lower Fifth (Year 9), Audrey, Upper Fifth (Year 11) and Lucy, though the rest of the team also acquitted themselves well. Unfortunately the cold weather meant that students only managed one GS race and that the slalom on the last day was cancelled. However, despite the conditions, the students all managed to keep up their good spirits.

For those not racing, it was great to see the improvement in their skiing over the course of the ten days. There were lots of laughs throughout the trip, and the staff and students involved are very much looking forward to returning next year.
