Upper Fifth (Year 11) student Claudia has created a short documentary film with the BBC on the consequences of contemporary culture’s dangerous addiction to social media, called Molly, Social Media and Me.
The short film was shown twice on BBC Breakfast and is available on BBC iPlayer .
Throughout the film, Claudia speaks candidly about her own experiences and concerns around social media, and the potentially damaging content that is made available to and often pushed on young people by its algorithms.
She also speaks to a range of professionals and invested individuals, including a professor of cognitive neuroscience, a previous big-tech industry insider, a member of the House of Lords, and most poignantly, the father of the late Molly Russell, whose tragic death has been linked to graphic content she was exposed to online.
Across all these interviews, Claudia conducts herself with a poise and sensitivity beyond her years, reflected in producer Tony Smith’s tweet: “Claudia was great to work with – what an inspirational, switched-on, impressive 15-year-old.”
