Speech Day: A Celebration for the Benenden Community

On Saturday, we gathered for the most significant event in the School calendar, our Speech Day, and what a spectacular occasion it was!

Set in the Rose Garden against the stunning backdrop of the School Centenary Buildings, the speeches captured the spirit of Benenden in every way.

A highlight of the day was a moving address by our Head Girl, Isolde Brandreth-Stroud, who, despite a sudden downpour (bravely shielded by our ever-dedicated Chaplain and her umbrella!), delivered a heartfelt speech reflecting on her time at Benenden. Together with School Captains Kestrel Davies and Avril O’Leary, she also penned and performed a humorous and moving poem about the characteristics of a Benenden girl: confident, resilient and loyal!

We were also inspired by Headmistress Ms Rachel Bailey’s empowering message encouraging students to be “brave not perfect” and calling for all to be bold enough to try, to speak up, and to learn through experience, rather than hold back through fear of not getting it right the first time.

In addition to the inspiring speeches, the day included a morning service, Prizegiving Ceremony, a delicious lunch, and afternoon tea. Throughout the day, a variety of student bands performed, providing a lively musical backdrop and showcasing the immense talent within our community.

The tradition of our Six Two girls passing through the Floral Arch as they become Benenden Seniors added enormous symbolism and emotion to the occasion, marking the end of their time as students here at Benenden with both pride and joy.

With Saturday’s celebration bringing this academic year to a close, we wish the whole Benenden community a very happy and restful Summer break. Recordings from the day can be accessed below, as well as photos from the Prizegiving Ceremony.
