Seventeen Benenden students headed to the snowy heights of Jasper in the Canadian Rockies in December. Under the expert coaching of the Marmot Basin instructors, seven skiers competed in the Cananda Cup and Canada Challenge cup races.
Alongside the race training, Fifth (Year 10) student Elizabeth completed her Level 1 Instructors Qualification, while the remaining skiers improved their technique exploring Marmot Basin.
Twelve schools competed, with 170 students competing in the Canada Cup and the Challenge Cup. Benenden did extremely well in the Dual Slalom, winning against Dulwich College, and the American International School Houston, only to be knocked out by the eventual winners – Reeds School.
Fourth (Year 7) Eliza, Lower Fifths (Year 9s) Sophie and Cynthia and Fifth (Year 10) Orla qualified for the Canada Cup. Congratulations to Sophie, who finished second in the Giant Slalom and third in the Slalom in the Canada Cup in the U16 category, and to Cynthia, who finished second in the Giant Slalom and Slalom in the U14 category, bringing back medals!
Upper Fifth (Year 11) Victoria, Lower Fifths (Yera 9s) Annika and Michelle and Upper Fourth (Year 8) Harriet all qualified for the Canada Challenge Cup, with Anika coming second in the U14 Slalom Race.
Well done to everyone who took part!
