Sixth Formers Interview Jacob Rees-Mogg MP

Last Thursday, the student-led SocSoc (Social Sciences Society) held a very successful event with Jacob Rees-Mogg MP, the Leader of the House of Commons. The event arose from Six One student Sophie approaching Mr Rees-Mogg when she saw him on the street in London during Half Term. She and Mirela interviewed Mr Rees-Mogg in a live Zoom conversation in front of their Six One peers in the Weston Lecture Theatre, with the event also streamed to parents, staff, Fifth, Upper Fifth and Six Two. More than 160 people logged on to the event, in which Sophie and Mirela quizzed Mr Rees-Mogg on issues including Brexit, Covid, same-sex marriage, populism and social media. Sophie said afterwards: “I think it went quite well; there were no technical difficulties or problems with anything like that which we were slightly worried about before and I think that the conversation was very interesting. “It was a great privilege to be able to speak with someone in such a high profile position and someone who has a lot of influence on a lot of politics happening at the moment; it was a very unique experience.”
