Sixth Form Students Given Low-Down on Law

Sixth Form Students Given Low-Down on Law

On Friday, Benenden was delighted to welcome Thomas Grant KC to speak to members of the School community.

Prior to the talk, Thomas, who is a Benenden parent, had supper with a group of Sixth Formers who had either applied to study Law at university or were interested in doing so. This was an excellent opportunity for students with a keen interest to ask more in-depth questions.

Things then moved into the Theatre for the main Speaker Event, which took the form of a question and answer session. Six Twos (Year 13s) Deborah and Chloe asked Thomas about what first drew him to a career as a barrister, and discussed with him the differences between working as a barrister and a solicitor. They then went on to ask him about his most successful and most challenging cases.

Thomas has written several books about some of the great trials of recent times and went on to explain how the Law and criminal trials come to reflect changes in society as a whole.
