On Friday we held a Question Time-style event in which pupils from Benenden and other local schools were able to quiz candidates and representatives from the main parties in Benenden’s parliamentary constituency.
One Sixth Former writes:
Benenden had the amazing opportunity to hear from the candidates to be the MP for our area, Maidstone and the Weald. Representatives from Conservatives, the Greens, Labour and the Lib Dems attended. Students from Sixth Form were given the opportunity to ask them questions on areas that concerned them. It was helpful, especially for girls who were going to be able to vote, to be able to ask any representative from a political party the reasoning behind their party’s policies.
It was a very informative evening and especially interesting for Politics students as they got to hear politicians discuss areas such as NHS, mental health, tax, the economy and of course Brexit. It gave people an insight into how politicians will agree and differ with some of their parties’ views. As with all political debates, there was some tension between the candidates and we got to hear them debating against each other to hear a two-sided argument.
Overall, it was a very interesting and insightful experience into the politics of the area and how politicians act with each other in real life.
