The Six One (Year 12) have been busy developing their business ideas for the Enterprise Challenge – a competition in which groups go head to head to create the most successful small business.
The students are already demonstrating creativity and resourcefulness when approaching the tasks being set for them. This week, they welcomed Tim Cullen from Mint DJs who talked to the students about his entrepreneurship journey and the high points and challenges he has experienced while running his business.
Mr Cullen explained the different facets of his company, from club nights to weddings and corporate events, and how he has expanded his offering beyond providing music to encompass dance floors, lighting, musicians and more. He also talked about the hard work involved in keeping up with the finances, marketing and social media, which are all part of running a successful business.
Ian Read, our Director of External Relations, then took over to provide the students with an insight into the integral role marketing and branding play in selling a product or service to a target market. He emphasised the importance of simplicity and consistency in marketing materials, branding and social media posts in order to get a message across effectively.
