Debaters Qualify for South East Final

Benenden debaters recently excelled in the second round of the ESU Mace competition.Benenden’s team of Six One (Year 12) students Annabel, Lauren and Hailey competed superbly and argued convincingly against the motion: This House Would Not Allow Countries with Poor Human Rights Records to Host Major International Sporting Events.Benenden won the debate and has now qualified to go through to the South East Final of the competition, which takes place next month.Four Lower Fifth (Year 9) debaters also recently took part in the International Competition For Young Debaters.Competing in London against 34 teams, Ella, Alice, Alice and Sophie performed very well. They debated against teams that were much more experienced, but they were still able to hold their own on motions concerning compulsory voting, banning private schools and paying reparations to countries that are harmed most by climate change.
