Leaders of the Benenden Eco Committee organised an engaging week of activities for Eco Week, highlighting the School's efforts to reduce its net carbon emissions while informing the community about recent environmental developments.
The week began with a whole-School Prayers during which members of Eco Committee delivered interesting, short presentations different environmentalist topics. The Library put together a book display with reading recommendations for different age groups, all related to sustainability and climate change.
On the Wednesday, a bake sale was ran with all proceeds going to the Marine Conservation Society – a charity fighting for a cleaner, healthier ocean. That evening the School welcomed an external speaker, Jenny Xie, who is a climate predictor who analyses data and helps companies make decisions about investments, in terms of climate and sustainability from a research perspective. The week came to a close with a talk given by Brenda O’Leary, who spoke about sustainability in the oil industry and workers' rights.
Running an Eco Week is also a crucial step in the process to become an Eco School, which Benenden is actively working towards at the minute.
