Benenden and Tonbridge Chapel Choirs Unite for Jubilee Evensong

In honour of the 70th anniversary of the Accession of Queen Elizabeth II, Benenden and Tonbridge’s respective Chapel Choirs recently sang a joint Evensong.

The two choirs united in Tonbridge’s stunning Chapel, singing to a capacity congregation with the accompaniment of the famous pipe organ.

The service included memorable renditions of pieces such as Handel’s Coronation anthem Zadok the Priest and Herbert Howells’ Collegium Regale setting of the Magnificat and Nunc Dimitties.

Marking the first time in recent memory that the two choirs have performed together, the rare opportunity for Benenden students to sing with tenors and basses was met with relish.

Under the guidance of Benenden’s conductor, Director of Music Edward Whiting, students from both choirs enjoyed the opportunity to produce a fullness of sound not otherwise achievable, in fitting tribute to the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee.
