Art in the Pinetum – Upper Fourth Woodland Day

23.05.2025

Following the completion of their internal exams, the Upper Fourth spent Thursday immersed in nature, taking part in the Art in the Pinetum project in the School’s woodland and Eco Classroom. The day began with an exploration of the Golden Ratio in nature—studying the shapes and patterns found in leaves, ferns, mosses, and branches, and developing an understanding of the mathematics behind these natural forms.

Inspired by the work of land artist Andy Goldsworthy, pupils then created their own site-specific artworks using natural materials. They reflected thoughtfully on their creative process and presented their pieces with personal commentaries during a well-attended private view in the Eco Classroom in the afternoon.

It was a wonderful day of artistic and intellectual engagement, and the pupils responded with creativity, insight, and a real appreciation for the woodland environment.
