In the last week before Half Term the Upper Fourth were given a challenge to build and programme a digital anemometer – used to measure wind speed – and suggest the best site for a wind turbine on the school grounds. The day started with the girls researching the Beaufort scale to measure wind speed and then they progressed through various linked activities that brought together Geography, Mathematics, Engineering, Technology and Science.

All the girls worked with great resilience and resourcefulness during the day and the majority of groups completed the programming of their anemometer, with some of them getting outside to collect data. All of the groups suggested that Top Lax would make a wonderful location for a wind turbine to generate electricity for the School.
