Hockey is an important part of our curriculum PE lessons and we also run junior and senior squads. Matches are played during the Autumn and Spring terms and we compete in the Kent Schools and EGHA Schools Tournaments.
We have had several girls who have been selected for the England Hockey Single System (Junior Development Centre) and we take part in the Mid Kent Hockey programme. Benenden has also established links with the Mid Kent Development Centre and they use our facilities as one of their venues for Development Centre training.
Since the opening of our All-Weather Pitch, the growth of Hockey at Benenden has taken on real momentum and continues to develop at a rapid pace, both in terms of participation and the level of performance.
Hockey is part of the curriculum for girls in Fourth, Upper Fourth, Lower Fifth and Fifth (Years 7, 8, 9 and 10) and runs as a club for the senior girls. Matches are played against a variety of Prep and Senior schools. A number of girls are involved in the high-performance Kent squads, many of which train on our All Weather Pitch. Matches are played during the Autumn and Spring Terms and we compete in tournaments such as the Kent Schools and EGHA.
As well as lessons, all squads have training once a week with our specialist Hockey staff. The growth of Hockey at Benenden has taken on real momentum and continues to develop at a rapid pace, both in terms of participation and the level of performance. We are continuing to increase the fixtures program. The U14 team have been particularly successful, competing in the National Schools Kent tournament where they recently qualified for the tier two regional tournament for the first time ever.
