At Benenden, Contemporary Dance follows the existing and unique Rambert Grades programme. It is the national and international benchmark for creative contemporary dance learning and practice. Rambert Grades is an exceptional and unique framework, accessible for people with a range of experience, working with the whole person and developing all the transferable skills this affords.
Rambert Grades offers qualifications, divided into graded examinations (Grade 1- 8) in line with other UK Performing Arts focused awarding bodies. The examinations offer students the opportunity to validate their learning, evidence achievement and demonstrate ability to succeed. If taking the grades, students will be assessed on technique, performance and creativity. However, examinations are not compulsory and students can equally dance for pleasure and enjoyment.
Students will be given the opportunity to be a member of the Benenden Contemporary Dance Company and take part in the annual Dance show. At present classes are taught in contemporary dance, focusing on the specific styles of Martha Graham, Richard Alston and Hofesh Schecter.
