Drama, Dance and Theatre Studies are thriving, with the department providing opportunities for all pupils to reach their full potential by helping girls to acquire new skills and knowledge, as well as the experience of working on productions, whether on or off stage.
Benenden has excellent facilities for all aspects of the Performing Arts and more than 40 per cent of pupils choose extra Drama in one form or another. Pupils also set up their own groups.
The Trinity Performance Arts syllabus is very popular and pupils have opportunities to take part in a variety of clubs and activities during the year. These include Junior Drama Club, Modern Dance Clubs and the Dance Show, Ballet lessons and the Ballet Show, the popular Inter-House Drama, productions at local schools and theatres, the Shakespeare Schools Festival, National Theatre Connections Competition, Edinburgh Fringe and the Artsfest Drama competition in Spain, in addition to examination performances.
Pupils can also direct or devise their own work under the guidance of departmental mentors, either as part of their Extended Project Qualification or purely for their love of the subject.
Pupils make regular trips to the theatre and also experience the work of outside theatre companies through workshops and performances within the School’s Theatre.
