Ballet

At Benenden the Cecchetti Method of classical ballet is studied. The method is devised from the work of Enrico Cecchetti, a leading dancer in ballet and mime during the turn of the 20th century. In his later years he was widely known and regarded as a teacher and for his programme to train the classical dancer.

Examination Syllabi are followed, and examinations taken through the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing (I.S.T.D.). There is the opportunity to attend two ballet classes each week and students that choose to work towards examination standard are encouraged to do so. However, examinations are not compulsory, and students can equally dance for pleasure and enjoyment, gaining an insight into classical ballet.

The students give an annual dance performance to showcase their skills.
