The Academic Support Department aims to serve any student who finds learning a challenge including those identified with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) and those who speak English as an Additional Language (EAL).
Individual one-to-one lessons can be provided by the department across a range of skills and are scheduled during Private Study periods, at break or lunch times or after school to ensure that a student's curriculum is not disturbed.
These individual lessons are arranged to support the needs of each girl and may include reading, processing information, spelling techniques, sequencing, writing skills, or revision etc. The department is also involved in the process of identifying students with potential Specific Learning Difficulties and arranges for the assessment and monitoring of all students with learning differences, however mild.

Heather Miller
Heather joined Benenden in November 2012 as a Visiting Tutor in the Academic Support Department before taking up the position of Head of Academic Support, Head of Psychology and SENCo in 2015. Previously Heather was Head of Psychology and Head of a Day Boarding House at The Licensed Victuallers’ School in Ascot.
Heather lives on site with her husband, Steve Miller and their two children and is a Tutor with Beeches House.
